Overview

Mother Albania is a 12-meter memorial statue located within the National Martyrs' Cemetery on a ridge overlooking Tirana. Dedicated in 1972, the monument honors fallen partisans from World War II and reflects Albania's modern history. Travellers visit to examine socialist-era sculpture and to view the city from an elevated vantage point.

Getting There

The site sits southeast of central Tirana. Reaching it by taxi from the city centre takes about 15 to 20 minutes. Public buses toward Sauk stop near the cemetery base, requiring a 10-minute uphill walk to the monument platform.

Time to Spend

Allow 30 to 45 minutes on-site. This is enough time to walk around the monument base and take in views across the plain.

When to Go

Early morning or late afternoon provides comfortable temperatures and good lighting. The open hilltop has little shade, making midday visits hot during summer. The location is rarely crowded, with higher foot traffic only during national remembrance days.
