National Art Center, Tokyo
The National Art Center, Tokyo (NACT) is a museum in Roppongi, Minato, Tokyo, Japan. Opened in January 2007, it is one of the five institutions of the Independent Administrative Institution National Museum of Art. Designed by architect Kisho Kurokawa, it was final completed project before his death in 2007.

The National Art Center, Tokyo (NACT) is unusual among Tokyo's major art institutions in that it holds no permanent collection. Instead, it rents out its galleries to large-scale touring exhibitions, art association shows, and design events, so what you see changes completely depending on when you visit. Travellers go for the current exhibition rather than for a fixed set of works — and for the building itself, one of architect Kisho Kurokawa's last projects, known for its undulating glass facade and the large inverted cone structures visible in the atrium.
Getting there
The museum sits in Roppongi, Minato, one of central Tokyo's museum and gallery districts. From central Tokyo it's typically reachable by subway in well under 30 minutes, with a station exit connecting directly into the building.
How much time to allow
Plan on roughly 1.5 to 3 hours, depending on the size of the exhibition on show and whether you also want time in the atrium, the museum shop, or one of the on-site cafés and restaurants.
When to go
Because the space hosts touring blockbuster exhibitions and popular open-call art association shows, popular exhibitions can draw large crowds, especially on weekends. Arriving earlier in the day tends to mean shorter waits, particularly for headline shows.
