Al-Zaytunah Mosque
Located in the heart of the old town (Medina) of Tunis, this is the oldest mosque in Tunisia. Established between the 7th and 8th centuries, the structure incorporates ancient columns brought from Carthage during a 9th-century reconstruction. Getting There
The mosque is situated within the pedestrian-heavy Medina. From the city center, visitors typically take a taxi or public transport to the edge of the old town and walk the remaining distance. The walk from the perimeter of the Medina usually takes 10 to 15 minutes depending on the entry point.

Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to explore the courtyard and the surrounding immediate area. This provides enough time to observe the architectural details and the layout of the site.
When to Visit
The area becomes crowded during prayer times and on Fridays. To avoid the largest crowds, visit during mid-morning or mid-afternoon. Like most sites in Tunis, the surrounding markets are most active during the day, while the mosque area remains a focal point of activity throughout the week.
