Castles & palaces
Dar Hussein
Dar Hussein
Dar Hussein is a historic palace situated within the Medina of Tunis. Visitors go here to view traditional Tunisian residential architecture and experience the layout of an old city center estate. The site preserves the structural style and atmosphere characteristic of the historic district.
Getting There
The palace is located inside the Medina, which is centrally positioned in Tunis. Since the Medina is a pedestrian-heavy zone with narrow streets, most visitors arrive by taxi or foot from the city center. The transit time depends on the starting point but is generally short, often taking less than 15 minutes to reach the perimeter of the old city.
Visit Duration
Allow approximately one to two hours to walk through the grounds and observe the architectural details of the palace.
When to Visit
Visiting during the morning or late afternoon is advisable to avoid the midday heat. The Medina can become crowded with shoppers and tourists, particularly on weekends and during peak tourist seasons in spring and autumn.
Nearby Attractions
Because of its central location in the Medina, this site can be combined with several nearby mosques within walking distance:
- Ksar Mosque: 0.1km
- Youssef Dey Mosque: 0.2km
- Al-Zaytunah Mosque: 0.2km
- El Kobba Mosque: 0.2km
