Turku Castle
Overview
Turku Castle is the oldest surviving building in Finland. Originating as a medieval fortification, the complex later incorporated Renaissance residential wings. Today it operates as a historical museum where visitors can navigate preserved stone passages, defensive towers, banquet halls, and multi-era exhibition galleries.
Getting There
The fortress is situated near the mouth of the Aura River, roughly 3 kilometres southwest of the city centre. Local public buses connect the central market area directly to the site in about 15 minutes. Walking along the riverside pedestrian path takes 35 to 45 minutes.

Allow 2 to 3 hours to explore the full site, as the interior spans multiple wings, steep stairwells, and extensive exhibit rooms.
When to Visit
Peak visitor volumes occur during the summer season and around midday. Visiting early in the day or during the off-season offers a less crowded experience. In colder months, indoor stone corridors can feel chilly, so warm layers and sturdy walking shoes are practical.
