Baths of Caracalla

These ruins are the remains of a massive public bathing complex constructed during the Roman Empire. Visitors walk through the site to see the scale of the original architecture, including the foundations of the frigidarium, tepidarium, and caldarium. The site is also historically noted as a gymnastics venue for the 1960 Rome Olympics.

Getting There

The site is located south of the historic center. From the city center, you can reach the ruins via public bus or the Metro (Line B). The journey typically takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on your starting point and traffic conditions.

Allow approximately 1.5 to 3 hours to walk through the grounds and view the remaining structures and mosaics.

When to Visit

The site is an open-air archaeological area with limited by weather conditions. Visiting during the shoulder seasons of spring or autumn is advisable to avoid the peak summer heat. The area can get crowded during peak tourist seasons and midday hours.
