Formed by seismic activity that reshaped the land, the lake is fed by Cameron Stream and sits adjacent to a larger neighboring lake. Visitors go here for nature walks and a quiet environment away from the urban center.

The lake is located east of the Wellington city centre. Access requires a vehicle, as it is situated within a regional park. The drive typically takes approximately 30 to 45 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

When to Visit

The site is accessible year-round. Visiting during the morning or early afternoon provides the most consistent daylight for navigating the park. As a regional park location, it does not experience the same density of crowds as central city attractions.
