Galovac
What It Is
Galovac is a small islet situated off the coast of Zadar, directly opposite the town of Preko. It is covered in pine forest and contains a 15th-century Franciscan monastery. Travellers visit to walk shaded coastal paths, swim in the sea, and relax on flat shoreline rocks.
Getting There
From central Zadar, take a passenger ferry across the channel to Preko (roughly 20 to 25 minutes). From the Preko waterfront, small wooden boats cross the narrow channel to the islet in a few minutes. Total travel time is around 35 to 45 minutes one way.
Time to Spend
Allow 1 to 2 hours. Walking the full perimeter trail takes under 30 minutes, leaving time for swimming or resting by the water.
When to Visit
Visit from June to September for warm swimming temperatures. The shore can get crowded around summer midday; mornings and late afternoons offer quieter conditions. Spring and autumn are suitable for walking in cooler weather.
