サヌール
Sanur Beach
Sanur Beach
Sanur is a long, calm stretch of coastline east of Denpasar, protected by an offshore reef that keeps the water flat for most of its length. That makes it a place for swimming, wading, and slow walks rather than surfing, and it draws a mix of families, older travellers, and residents out for exercise rather than a party crowd. A paved promenade runs along most of the shore, backed by cafes, small hotels, and fishing boats pulled up on the sand.
Getting there
Sanur sits on the coast southeast of central Denpasar, and most visitors reach it by car or taxi, generally around 20-30 minutes from the city centre depending on traffic. From Ngurah Rai International Airport (DPS) it's a similarly short drive, well under an hour outside peak hours.
How long to stay
An hour or two covers a walk along the promenade and some beach time. If you plan to swim, rent a bike to ride the coastal path, or watch the sunrise, allow half a day.
When to go
Early morning is the best time to be out here: the light is soft, the promenade is used by locals jogging and doing tai chi, and the heat hasn't built up yet. Because Sanur faces east, it's a sunrise spot rather than a sunset one. The beach and cafes get busier by mid-morning and through the afternoon, especially on weekends.
Combine it with
- Le Mayeur Museum (1km) — the closest stop, an easy add-on to a beach walk.
- Ayung River (3.5km) and Bajra Sandhi Monument (3.8km) — both a short drive away for a change of scenery.
- Holy Spirit Cathedral (4.2km) — worth combining with the monument if you're heading further inland.
