チャトチャック公園

Chatuchak Park

What it is

Chatuchak Park is a public green space in Bangkok's Chatuchak District, sitting alongside Queen Sirikit Park and Wachirabenchathat Park as part of a larger connected park area in the north of the city. It has open lawns, a lake, walking and jogging paths, and shaded trees, and it gives the district its name. Locals use it for exercise, picnics, and simply escaping the traffic and heat for a while — it's a place to walk or sit rather than a sightseeing stop with a single landmark.

Getting there

The park has its own MRT stop, Chatuchak Park station, on the Blue Line, which puts it within easy reach of most central Bangkok neighborhoods by train. From areas like Sukhumvit or Silom, expect roughly 20–30 minutes door to station, plus a short walk to the park entrance.

How much time to allow

An hour or two is enough for a walk around the lake and a rest in the shade. If you plan to combine it with the neighboring parks or the weekend market, you could easily spend half a day in the area.

When to go

Early morning or late afternoon is more comfortable, since Bangkok's midday heat and humidity can make walking outdoors uncomfortable. Mornings tend to be busiest with people exercising, jogging, and doing group activities like tai chi or aerobics, so expect some crowding along the main paths at that time.

What to combine it with

  • Queen Sirikit Park (0.6km) — adjoining green space, an easy extension of the same walk.
  • Chatuchak Weekend Market (0.9km) — one of the city's largest markets, but only open on weekends, so time your visit accordingly.
  • Elephant Building (2.4km) — a distinctive piece of Bangkok architecture, worth the short trip if you're interested in the city's skyline.
