Museum of Cham Sculpture

This museum holds a collection of sandstone and terracotta sculpture from the Cham civilisation, which ruled central Vietnam for centuries before the region became part of Vietnam. The pieces on display, including altars, deities and carved figures, come from Cham temple sites across the region such as My Son. It's a good stop for understanding the archaeological context before or after visiting My Son itself, and for anyone interested in Southeast Asian religious art outside of the more commonly seen Khmer or Vietnamese traditions.

Getting there

The museum sits in Hải Châu District near the Han River, close to the city centre. From most central Da Nang hotels it's a short taxi or ride-hail trip, typically well under 15 minutes depending on traffic. It's also walkable from riverside areas near Dragon Bridge if you don't mind a longer stroll.

Time to allow

Most visitors spend around one to one and a half hours here. The collection is not huge, so it suits a focused visit rather than a full-day outing.

When to go

Mornings tend to be quieter and cooler for walking between exhibits, since parts of the museum involve open-air or semi-outdoor gallery space. It is not typically known as a crowded site, but tour groups can pass through around midday.

Combine with

  • Dragon River Bridge (0.5km) — a short walk away, worth timing around dusk if you want to see the bridge lit up.
  • Da Nang Cathedral (0.8km) and the Roman Catholic Diocese of Đà Nẵng (0.8km) — close together, easy to pair on the same walk.
  • Tran Thi Ly Bridge (1.3km) — a bit farther along the river, suitable if you're continuing on foot or by taxi.
