piazzale Michelangelo
미켈란젤로 광장(Piazzale Michelangelo, 영어: Michelangelo Square)은 이탈리아 피렌체에 있는 광장이다. 미켈란젤로가 만든 다비드상의 모조품이 있다.
What it is
Piazzale Michelangelo is a large square on a hill south of the Arno, built in the 19th century as a scenic terrace overlooking Florence. It's not a garden or monument to explore in detail — the point is the view: the Duomo, Palazzo Vecchio, and the rooftops of the historic centre laid out below. A bronze copy of Michelangelo's David stands at the centre.
Getting there
From the city centre it's a walk of around 30-40 minutes, much of it uphill through the San Niccolò gate and up a series of ramps and steps (the Viale Michelangiolo). Bus routes run from the centre to the piazzale in about 15-20 minutes if you'd rather skip the climb. Taxis take roughly 10-15 minutes depending on traffic.
How long to stay
Most visitors spend 20-40 minutes here — enough time to take in the view, get photos, and walk the perimeter of the square. There isn't much else to occupy you at the piazzale itself.
When to go
Late afternoon into sunset is when it's busiest, since the view faces west over the city. Expect crowds, tour groups, and vendors at that time, especially in spring and summer. Coming earlier in the day or outside peak season gives a quieter visit, though the light on the buildings is less dramatic than at sunset.
Combine it with
- San Miniato al Monte (0.4km) — a short uphill walk further, worth combining since it's so close.
- Basilica of Santa Croce (0.6km) — back down toward the centre.
- Casa Buonarroti (0.8km) and Museo Galileo (0.9km) — both within easy walking distance on the way back into town.
