博多座
Hakata-za
博多座（はかたざ）は、福岡市博多区下川端町にある九州最大級の演劇専用劇場。大型複合商業施設の博多リバレインの主要テナントで、博多座・西銀ビルの2階から6階にある。
What it is
Hakata-za is a kabuki theatre in central Fukuoka, built in 1996. It's one of the venues where touring kabuki troupes from Tokyo and Kyoto perform, alongside other stage productions and events throughout the year. For travellers, it's a chance to see kabuki outside the usual Tokyo/Kyoto circuit, in a modern purpose-built theatre rather than a historic one.
Getting there
The theatre sits right by Nakasu-Kawabata Station, a short walk from central Fukuoka. From the main Tenjin or Hakata Station areas, it's roughly 10-15 minutes by subway plus a few minutes on foot from the station exit.
How much time to allow
If you're attending a performance, kabuki programs typically run several hours, sometimes with an intermission long enough to grab food nearby. If you're just passing by without a ticket, there isn't much to see from the outside, so it's not worth a special detour unless you're catching a show.
When to go
Performance schedules change throughout the year and are worth checking in advance, since the theatre isn't always staging kabuki. Arrive with enough buffer before showtime, as the surrounding Nakasu-Kawabata area can get busy in the evenings, especially around dinner time.

The theatre's location makes it easy to pair with a few nearby stops:
