王貞治ベースボールミュージアム
Oh Sadaharu Baseball Museum
王貞治ベースボールミュージアム（おうさだはるベースボールミュージアム）は、王貞治（元プロ野球選手・監督、現福岡ソフトバンクホークス球団取締役会長）の功績を称え足跡を残す記念館（ミュージアム）である。2010年7月3日、福岡県福岡市中央区のヤフオク!ドーム内（スポーツバー「ザ・ビッグライフ」跡）に開館した。運営は福岡ソフトバンクホークス株式会社が行っている。ドーム改装に伴い、一旦閉館したが、2020年7月21日、BOSS E・ZO FUKUOKAの4階に正式名称「王貞治ベースボールミュージアム Supported by リポビタンD」として再オープンした。命名権は2025年8月までブシロードが獲得しており、正式名称は「王貞治ベースボールミュージ...
What it is
This is a memorabilia museum dedicated to Sadaharu Oh, the former Yomiuri Giants slugger and long-time manager of the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, who holds Japan's professional home run record. The museum sits inside the Hawks' home stadium (now known as Fukuoka PayPay Dome) and is run by the club's marketing arm, so it's aimed at baseball fans rather than general sightseers. Getting there
The museum is part of the stadium complex west of central Fukuoka, in Chuo Ward near Ohori Park. From the city centre (Tenjin or Hakata), it's roughly a 15-20 minute bus or taxi ride, or about a 20-25 minute walk from Ohori Park if you're already in that area.
How much time to allow
An hour is generally enough to see the exhibits at a comfortable pace, more if you want to read every display closely or are a dedicated Hawks fan.
When to go
Because it's attached to the stadium, the surrounding area gets busy on game days, with crowds and traffic around the dome before and after matches. Visiting on a non-game day, or well before first pitch, will make for an easier trip. Outside of stadium events, the museum itself tends to be quiet.
What to combine it with
Ohori Park (1.7km) is the closest stop and works well before or after, with its walking paths around the moat. The Fukuoka Art Museum (2.1km) sits right by the park, and Fukuoka Castle ruins (2.3km) are a short walk further, making it easy to link the three into one afternoon. Kōrokan (2.4km), the excavated site of an ancient diplomatic guesthouse, is also within reach if you have more time.
