From Malpensa (MXP) or Linate (LIN) airports, a train or bus into the city center followed by a short walk or one metro stop is the usual route.

Passing through and taking in the square itself takes 15-30 minutes. Most visitors combine it with entering the cathedral or the Galleria, which extends a visit to two hours or more once queues and security checks are factored in.
When to go
The piazza is busiest in the late morning through afternoon, especially on weekends and during summer. Early morning offers a quieter view of the cathedral facade before crowds and tour groups build up. Be aware the open square offers little shade, which matters in summer heat.
