Posillipo

ポジッリポ

Posillipo is an affluent residential quarter of Naples, southern Italy, located along the northern coast of the Gulf of Naples.

Posillipo

Posillipo is a hillside residential district along Naples' northern coastline, known for villas, sea views, and a coastal road that runs above the water. There's no single monument here — the appeal is the walk or drive itself, with rocky coves for swimming below the road and views back across the Gulf of Naples toward Vesuvius and the islands. It's more of a neighbourhood outing than a sightseeing stop.

Getting there

From central Naples, Posillipo is reachable by bus along Via Posillipo, or by taxi in roughly 20-30 minutes depending on traffic. There's no metro stop directly serving the area, so most visitors either drive, taxi, or combine a bus ride with walking.

Time to allow

A couple of hours is enough for a walk along the coast road and a stop at one of the viewpoints. If you plan to swim at one of the small coves or linger over a meal with a sea view, allow half a day.

When to go

Late afternoon into evening is a good time for the views, as the light over the gulf and Vesuvius softens. The coast road can get busy with car traffic, so walking or taking a taxi rather than driving yourself may be easier. Summer weekends draw more visitors to the swimming spots along the shore.

Combine it with

  • Vesuvius Observatory (2.4km) — a short trip further along, of interest if you're curious about volcanology.
  • Nisida (3.6km) — a small volcanic islet connected by a causeway, visible from parts of the Posillipo coast.
  • Bagnoli (3.3km) and the Stazione Zoologica Anton Dohrn (4.1km) — both reachable in the same coastal stretch if you're continuing west.

カステルデッローボ(卵城)

Castel dell'Ovo is a seafront castle in Naples, located on the former island of Megaride, now a peninsula, on the Gulf of Naples in Italy. The castle's name comes from a legend about the Roman poet Virgil, who had a reputation in the Middle Ages as a great sorcerer and predictor of the future. In the legend, Virgil put a magical egg into the foundations to support the fortifications. It remains there along with his bones, and had this egg been broken, the castle would have been destroyed and a series of disastrous events for Naples would have followed. The castle is located between the distric...
