Bagnoli
Bagnoli is a western seaside quarter of Naples, Italy, well beyond the confines of the original city. It is beyond Cape Posillipo and, thus, looking on the coast of the Bay of Pozzuoli.

Bagnoli is a seaside district on the western edge of Naples, past Cape Posillipo, facing the Bay of Pozzuoli rather than the main Bay of Naples. For most of the 20th century it was dominated by the Ilva steelworks, and the area is still in the middle of a long redevelopment following the plant's closure. Travellers come here less for polished sights and more for the waterfront itself, the Bagnoli-Coroglio beach, and the view across the water toward Nisida and the Phlegraean coast. It's a working residential quarter rather than a tourist zone, so expect an unvarnished, real-city atmosphere alongside the sea.
Getting there
From central Naples, Bagnoli is reachable by the Cumana suburban rail line from Montesanto station, with a journey of roughly 15-20 minutes to Bagnoli station. Metro Line 2 connects to Cumana at Montesanto and other interchange points. By car or taxi, allow around 20-30 minutes from the historic centre depending on traffic along the coastal road.
How much time to allow
A couple of hours is enough to walk the seafront and beach area. If you plan to linger on the beach, swim, or eat at a waterfront spot, budget half a day.
When to go
Late afternoon into evening tends to suit the seafront well, especially for views toward the sunset over the bay. Summer weekends bring more visitors to the beach; a weekday visit is quieter. As redevelopment work is ongoing in parts of the district, some areas may be under construction, so wandering off the main seafront can be less rewarding.

- Vesuvius Observatory (1.5km) — the historic volcanology institute, a short trip away.
- Nisida (2.1km) — the small volcanic islet visible from Bagnoli's coast, connected by a causeway.
- Cave of Dogs (2.2km) — a site near Pozzuoli tied to the area's volcanic geology.
- Phlegraean Fields (2.7km) — the wider volcanic area worth a half-day if you want to continue exploring the coast beyond Bagnoli.
