Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan
가이유칸(海遊館 )은 일본 오사카부 오사카시 미나토구에 있는 수족관이다. 길이 9m, 넓이 34m에 물 5,400톤을 담은 초대형 수조와 14개의 전시수조로 구성되어 있다. 540종, 약 4만 마리의 해양 생물들과 바닷가 조류, 파충류 등을 볼 수 있다.
What it is
Kaiyukan is a large aquarium built around a central tank that traces a Pacific Rim theme, with visitors walking down a spiral ramp past exhibits representing different regions and depths of the ocean. The main draw is the whale shark that shares the deep tank with other large fish, visible from multiple viewing levels as you descend. It suits travellers who want a few hours indoors looking at marine life rather than a quick photo stop.
Getting there
From central Osaka, the aquarium sits in the Minato ward near Osaka Bay. The most common route is the subway to Osakako Station on the Chuo Line, followed by a short walk of about five to ten minutes. From areas like Umeda or Namba, allow roughly 20-30 minutes for the journey.
How much time to allow
Plan for about two to three hours to go through the full route at a normal pace, more if you want to stop and read exhibit information or watch feeding times.
When to go
Weekends, Japanese holidays, and school vacation periods tend to bring the largest crowds, with the descent through the main tank area becoming slow-moving. Arriving soon after opening or visiting on a weekday afternoon generally means more room to move at your own pace.
What to combine it with
- Mount Tenpō (0.5km) and the Kyū-Yodo River area (0.5km) are both close enough to walk to before or after your visit.
- Universal Studios Japan (1.2km) is nearby but is a full-day destination on its own, so it works better as a separate day than a same-day add-on.
