Capital Tower
Capital Tower is a 52-storey, 254 m (833 ft) skyscraper completed in 2000 in the Shenton Way-Tanjong Pagar financial district of Singapore, located at Robinson Road next to Tanjong Pagar MRT station. It is the fourth tallest skyscraper in the city. Formerly planned as the POSBank's headquarters, ownership of the building was transferred to CapitaLand, and became the company's flagship building and was then named after the company. The building was officially opened on 16 May 2001 by Minister for National Development Mah Bow Tan.
What it is
Capital Tower is a 52-storey office skyscraper completed in 2000, standing 254 metres tall in the Shenton Way–Tanjong Pagar financial district. It's the flagship building of property group CapitaLand and one of the tallest towers in the city skyline. There's no public observation deck or visitor attraction inside — it's a working commercial building, so the appeal for most travellers is external: photographing the skyline from street level, or passing it while exploring the surrounding financial district.
Getting there
The tower sits right next to Tanjong Pagar MRT station, on Robinson Road. From the city centre (e.g. Orchard Road or the Marina Bay area), it's a short MRT ride on the East-West Line, typically well under 20 minutes plus a walk of a minute or two from the station exit.
Time to allow
Since it's a commercial building rather than a sight to enter, most visitors spend only a few minutes viewing or photographing it from outside before moving on.
When to go
Weekday daytime hours bring heavy foot traffic from office workers, especially around lunch and commuting times. If you're after quieter streets for photos, early morning or weekend visits are calmer. As with much of the financial district, the area can feel subdued in the evenings and on weekends since it's driven by office activity.
What to combine it with
The tower works well as a stop within a walk through the Tanjong Pagar and Chinatown fringe area. Thian Hock Keng temple is just 0.4 km away, with Sri Mariamman Temple 0.6 km and Masjid Jamae 0.7 km — all reachable on foot and reflecting the area's mix of Chinese, Hindu, and Muslim heritage. Republic Plaza, another notable skyscraper, is also 0.7 km away if you want to see more of the district's modern architecture.
