天福宮 (シンガポール)
Thian Hock Keng
천복궁(天福宮, Thian Hock Keng Temple) 은 싱가포르 아우트람에 위치한 중국의 바다의 여신 마조를 숭배하기 위해 지어진 사원이다.
What it is
Thian Hock Keng is a Hokkien temple dedicated to Mazu, the Chinese sea goddess, built by early Chinese immigrants near what was once the shoreline of Singapore, where sailors would give thanks after safe crossings. Walk in for the carved roof ridges with their dragon and phoenix figures, the imported granite pillars and beams, and the layers of incense smoke inside the main hall. It's an active place of worship, not a museum piece, so expect worshippers alongside visitors.
Getting there
The temple sits in the Outram / Telok Ayer area on the southern edge of the city centre. From Raffles Place or Marina Bay it's about a 10-15 minute taxi or walk, and Telok Ayer MRT station (Downtown Line) is a couple of minutes' walk from the entrance.
How long to stay
Most visitors spend 30-45 minutes here, enough time to look at the exterior details and step through the main hall and side courtyards.
When to go
Early morning tends to be quieter and gives softer light for the roof carvings. The temple can feel busy around midday and on weekends when both worshippers and tour groups pass through, and incense smoke builds up indoors as the day goes on.
What to combine it with
The area rewards a short walking loop: Masjid Jamae and Sri Mariamman Temple are both about 0.3km away, so a mosque, a Hindu temple and a Chinese temple sit within a few minutes of each other along the same streets. Capital Tower and Republic Plaza, roughly 0.4km off, are worth passing on the way if you're heading toward the Raffles Place skyscraper cluster.
