The Federated States of Micronesia (FSM), or simply Micronesia, is an island country in Micronesia, a region of Oceania. The federation encompasses the majority of the Caroline Islands and consists of four states—from west to east: Yap, Chuuk, Pohnpei, and Kosrae—that span the western Pacific just north of the equator for a longitudinal distance of almost 2,700 km (1,700 mi). Together, the states comprise around 607 islands and a combined land area of approximately 702 km2 or 271 sq mi.

Pohnpei is an island in the Caroline Islands, part of the Federated States of Micronesia, and home to the country's capital, Palikir. With its own international airport, it's an easy place to visit for South Pacific nature.

An island group in Pohnpei State, Federated States of Micronesia, made up of the volcanic island of Pohnpei and the small atolls of Ant and Pakin. It's a place to see both a volcanic island and coral atolls together.

Dolohmwar is the third-highest peak in the Federated States of Micronesia, reaching 760 meters above sea level. It offers scenic mountain views set among the surrounding peaks.

Rising 782 meters at the southern tip of Pohnpei Island, Mount Nanlaud is the highest peak in the Federated States of Micronesia. A popular trek to the summit rewards hikers with sweeping views of the entire island.

Deke Sokehs

Deke Sokehs is a mountainous peninsula stretching along the northern coast of Pohnpei Island. Originally a separate island, it's now linked to the mainland by mangrove wetlands and a causeway, making it a great spot to take in mangrove forests along narrow channels together with rugged mountain scenery.

Catholic Belltower

A bell tower remaining at a Catholic mission on Pohnpei Island in Micronesia. It is the only surviving part of a church built in 1909, carrying traces of wartime history.

Heritage & monuments

Spanish Wall

These are the remains of an old Spanish fortress wall on Pohnpei, Federated States of Micronesia, built by Spanish administrators after a local uprising in 1887. Portions of what was once an 0.8-kilometer-long, 2.4-meter-high wall still stand, making it a good spot to explore the island's history.
