Muharraq Island

Muharraq Island is the second-largest island in Bahrain and serves as the primary entry point to the country, as it houses the Bahrain International Airport (BAH). Travelers visit the island to explore its historical districts and coastal areas, as it represents a blend of traditional Bahraini architecture and modern infrastructure.

Getting There

The island is connected to the main city center of Manama via a series of bridges. Depending on traffic conditions, the drive typically takes between 15 to 30 minutes by taxi or rental car.

Duration of Visit

Depending on the number of sites visited, allow between half a day and a full day to explore the island's key landmarks and residential quarters.

When to Visit

The most comfortable time to visit is during the cooler months from November to March. Due to the high humidity and heat of the summer, outdoor exploration is difficult during the day. Mornings are generally preferred for walking tours to avoid peak midday temperatures.

Nearby Attractions

The island offers several historical and leisure sites within a short distance:

  • Arad Fort (2km)
  • Qal‘at Bū Māhir (3.8km)
  • Amwaj Islands (3.8km)
  • Al Hasan Mosque (4.1km)
