Iavoloha Palace

The Iavoloha Palace serves as the official presidential palace of Madagascar. Located 15 km south of Antananarivo, the structure was built in the 1970s with assistance from North Korea and was designed to mirror the architectural style of the Rova of Antananarivo. Visitors typically go to see the exterior of the residence and understand its political and architectural significance.

Getting There

The palace is situated outside the main city center. The most common way to reach the site is by hiring a private car or taxi from central Antananarivo. Depending on the traffic conditions, which can be heavy in the capital, the journey generally takes between 30 to 60 minutes.

Visit Duration

Because the site is a functioning government residence with restricted access, most visitors spend a short amount of time here, typically between 1 and 2 hours, focusing on the surrounding grounds and the exterior view.

When to Visit

It is advisable to visit during the dry season to avoid road disruptions caused by heavy rain. As it is a high-security government installation, access can be restricted without prior arrangement or during official state events.

Combining with Other Sites

Due to its location, this site can be paired with other landmarks in and around the city. Nearby options include:

  • FJKM Rasalama Maritiora Ambohipotsy (8 km)
  • Botanical and Zoological Garden of Tsimbazaza (8.2 km)
  • Rova of Antananarivo (8.9 km)
  • Andafiavaratra Palace (9.2 km)
