Turkmen Carpet Museum
Overview
The Turkmen Carpet Museum is a national institution in Ashgabat dedicated to traditional carpet weaving. Visitors go to examine a broad collection of hand-woven textiles featuring intricate regional patterns, historical weaving methods, and large woven carpets representing Turkmenistan's heritage.
Getting There
Located in central Ashgabat, the site is accessible from the city centre by taxi or local bus in roughly 5 to 15 minutes. From Ashgabat International Airport (ASB), the drive takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes by taxi.
Time to Allow
Allow 1 to 2 hours to walk through the exhibition halls and view the displays comfortably.
When to Visit
Morning and early afternoon provide good indoor lighting for viewing the displays. Given Ashgabat's extreme summer heat, spring and autumn are the most comfortable seasons to travel. The venue rarely gets crowded, though tour groups occasionally visit during the morning.
What to Combine It With
You can easily combine a visit with several nearby attractions in the city centre:
- World of Turkmenbashi Tales: 0.5 km
- Turkmen Puppet Theatre: 1 km
- Presidential Palace of Turkmenistan: 1 km
- Oguzhan Palace: 1.2 km
