Hadrian's Library

Located just north of the Acropolis, this site consists of the ruins of a library and cultural complex built by the Roman Emperor Hadrian. Visitors go here to see the remaining Corinthian columns and the layout of the ancient Roman architectural style in the heart of Athens.

Getting There

The site is situated in the central district of Athens. From the city center, it is accessible via a short walk or a quick ride on the Metro to the Monastiraki station. Depending on your starting point in the center, the journey typically takes between 5 and 15 minutes.

Visit Duration

Most visitors spend approximately 45 to 90 minutes exploring the ruins and the surrounding perimeter.

When to Visit

To avoid the strongest heat and the largest crowds, early morning or late afternoon is recommended. The site is outdoors, so summer months can be very hot. Like many central Athens landmarks, it can get crowded during peak tourist seasons.
