St. Paul's Island

St. Paul's Island is a small, uninhabited landmass located off the northeastern coast of Malta. Travellers visit the island primarily by boat to explore its rocky terrain and coastal scenery. It is historically significant as the site where St. Paul is said to have landed after being shipwrecked.

Getting There

The island is accessible via boat trips departing from the nearby coast of Birkirkara or surrounding coastal towns. From the city centre, you can take a taxi or local bus to the shoreline. The transit time from the centre to the departure points varies depending on traffic but generally takes around 15 to 30 minutes.

Duration of Visit

Due to its compact size, most visitors spend between 1 and 3 hours on the island. This allows enough time to walk the perimeter and explore the shoreline before returning to the mainland.

When to Visit

The island is best visited during the spring and autumn months to avoid the peak summer heat. Morning trips are often preferred to avoid the midday sun. During the summer season, boat tours can become crowded with tourists.

Nearby Attractions

You can combine a visit to the island with other historical sites in the region:

  • Buġibba Temple (2km)
  • Tal-Qadi Temple (3.7km)
  • Skorba Temples (5.6km)
  • Victoria Lines (6.1km)
