Divanbegi Madrasa
Overview
The Divanbegi Madrasa is a 17th-century religious school situated on the eastern side of the Lyab-i Hauz pond in Bukhara's old town. Commissioned by a vizier of the Khan of Bukhara, the building forms a core architectural component of the historic public square and serves as a prime example of Central Asian architectural design.
Getting There
Located directly in the historic center, the site is easily accessible on foot within 5 to 15 minutes from most central accommodations. From Bukhara International Airport (BHK), located roughly 5 kilometers away, a taxi ride to the edge of the pedestrian area takes about 10 to 15 minutes.
Time to Allow
Plan to spend roughly 30 to 45 minutes to examine the facade tilework, explore the central courtyard, and view the exterior from the square.
When to Visit
Early morning is ideal for quiet sightseeing before tour groups arrive. Late afternoon offers cooler temperatures and good light on the main portal. The area gets crowded in the evenings, especially during the peak spring and autumn travel seasons. Summer mid-days bring intense heat and are best avoided for open-air walking.
