Stirovnik is the highest peak of the Lovćen mountain range, reaching an elevation of 1,749 meters. Because the summit houses military facilities and communication towers, access to the very top is restricted. Travelers typically visit the area to experience the high-altitude terrain of the region, though most hikers and sightseers opt for the adjacent peak where the Njegoš Mausoleum is located.
Getting There
The peak is located in the mountains above Cetinje. Access from the city center is primarily via winding mountain roads. Depending on the mode of transport and weather conditions, the drive typically takes around 30 to 45 minutes.
Time Allocation
Since the summit itself is off-limits, visitors generally spend 1 to 2 hours in the immediate vicinity to explore the surrounding ridges and viewpoints before moving to other nearby sites.
When to Visit
The best time to visit is during the summer and early autumn when the mountain passes are clear of snow and accessible. It is advisable to arrive in the morning to avoid afternoon fog, which can obscure visibility. The area does not typically experience the same level of crowding as the main tourist hubs in the valley.
