Wat I Kang
Wat I Kang is a temple site dating from the 16th to 17th century, located within the ruins of Wiang Kum Kam. Visitors go here to walk among the architectural remnants of the old temple and observe the layout of the ancient city's religious structures.
Getting There
The site is located southeast of Chiang Mai city centre. Most travellers reach the area via a short taxi or ride-sharing trip, which typically takes 15 to 20 minutes depending on traffic. Once in the Wiang Kum Kam area, local horse-drawn carriages or rented bicycles are common ways to navigate between the ruins.
Visit Duration
Allow approximately 30 to 60 minutes to explore the grounds and the remaining structures of the temple.
When to Visit
Early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat, as the site is largely outdoors with limited shade. The cooler season from November to February is the most comfortable time for walking tours. This location is generally less crowded than the main temples inside the old city walls.
