Delhi Ridge

What It Is

The Delhi Ridge marks the northern extension of the ancient Aravalli Range, predating the Himalayas. Composed of rocky quartzite and semi-arid forest, it provides a quiet natural corridor within the city. Visitors come for low-intensity walking and bird watching among ancient rock formations that contrast with Delhi's dense urban setting.

Getting There

From central Delhi, the area is reachable by taxi, auto-rickshaw, or the metro. Depending on traffic and the chosen access point, transit generally takes 20 to 40 minutes from central transit hubs.

Time to Spend

Allow 1 to 2 hours to explore the trails and wooded sections at a relaxed pace.

When to Visit

The cooler winter months from October through March provide the best conditions for outdoor walks. Early mornings are recommended to avoid midday heat and urban haze. The trails rarely become crowded, though local residents use the paths for morning and evening exercise.

Nearby Attractions

A visit can be combined with several nearby points of interest within a short drive:

  • Chanakyapuri (2.7 km)
  • Prime Ministers Museum & Library (3.3 km)
  • Teen Murti Bhavan (3.3 km)
  • Laxminarayan Temple (3.5 km)
