Andalusian Mosque

The Andalusian Mosque is one of the oldest mosques in Morocco, constructed between 859 and 860. It is located in the old town of Fez, specifically within the quarter historically settled by immigrants from Al-Andalus. Visitors go here to see an example of early Islamic architecture in the region and to experience the historical atmosphere of the city's ancient residential districts.

Getting There

The mosque is situated within the Medina of Fez. Because the old town consists of a dense network of narrow pedestrian alleys, it is accessible only by foot. From the central areas of the Medina, it takes approximately 5 to 10 minutes to reach, depending on your specific starting point.

Time Requirement

Allow 30 to 60 minutes for a visit. This provides enough time to observe the exterior and the immediate surroundings of the mosque.

When to Visit

Visit during the morning or late afternoon to avoid the midday heat. As it is located in a busy residential and commercial district, the surrounding streets can become crowded during peak market hours. Be mindful of prayer times, as access for non-Muslims may be restricted.
