Overview

Al-Wad School Mosque is a religious site situated within the old medina of Fez. Constructed between the late 18th and early 19th centuries on the site of a former madrasa, the building functions as an active local mosque. Visitors walking through the historic quarter stop by to observe its traditional Moroccan Islamic architecture and historical setting.

Getting There

Located in the pedestrian-only medina, the site is accessed on foot. From the modern city centre (Ville Nouvelle), take a taxi or bus toward the medina entrance at Bab Rcif, which takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes. From there, walk through the alleys for approximately 5 to 10 minutes to reach the building.

Suggested Duration

Allow around 15 to 30 minutes for a visit. Non-Muslim travellers generally view the exterior and architectural details from the street while exploring the surrounding quarter.

When to Visit

Morning and late afternoon are practical times to visit to avoid midday heat. Spring and autumn offer comfortable walking conditions. The surrounding alleys can get crowded during peak shopping hours and around Friday prayer times.
