Al Anwar Hanging Mosque

Founded in the early 9th century by Idris I, this is the oldest mosque in Fez. While only partial remains survive today, the site serves as a historical marker for the city's origins. Travelers visit this location to trace the early architectural and religious foundations of the city.

The mosque is located within the Medina of Fez. Since the medina consists of a dense network of pedestrian alleys, it is reached on foot from the city center. Depending on your starting point within the old city, the walk typically takes 10 to 20 minutes.

Because only partial remains are visible, a short visit is sufficient. Most visitors spend approximately 30 to 60 minutes exploring the site and its immediate surroundings.
