The Layer Pyramid

Located at the Zawyet el-Aryan site, this structure is a step pyramid dating back to the Third Dynasty of the Old Kingdom. Due to extensive damage over time and erosion, its original form is difficult to determine, and the identity of its owner remains unknown. Travelers visit this site to see an early example of pyramid construction away from the primary tourist hubs.

Getting There

The site is located outside the main urban center of Cairo. The most practical way to reach it is by hiring a private car or taxi from the city center. The journey typically takes between 45 to 90 minutes depending on traffic conditions.

Because the site is small and the structure is heavily ruined, most visitors spend approximately 1 to 2 hours exploring the area.

When to Visit

To avoid the midday heat, it is advisable to visit in the early morning or late afternoon. The cooler winter months are the most suitable season for visiting this open-air site. Unlike the main Giza plateau, this location does not typically experience large crowds.
