German Colony

The German Colony is a historic neighborhood in Haifa established in 1868 by German Templers. The area is characterized by stone houses and architecture from the 19th century. Visitors go here to walk along the main street, which features a mix of preserved historic buildings, cafes, and shops.

Getting There

The colony is located at the foot of Mount Carmel. From Haifa's city center, it is accessible via a short taxi ride or by using the Carmelit underground funicular, which transports passengers from the upper city down to the lower levels. The journey typically takes 10 to 150 minutes depending on the starting point and mode of transport.

Duration of Visit

A walk through the main street and a visit to the local shops usually requires 1 to 2 hours.

When to Visit

The area is most active in the evenings and on weekends when more cafes are open. It can get crowded during public holidays and weekends. To avoid the midday heat, visiting during the early morning or late afternoon is recommended, particularly during the summer months.
