Shrine of the Báb

Shrine of the Báb

Located on the slopes of Mount Carmel in Haifa, this site is a central place of worship for the Baháʼí Faith. It serves as the burial place for the Báb, making it the second holiest site for followers of the religion. Visitors go here to see the architecture of the shrine and the surrounding landscaped gardens.

Getting There

The site is accessible from Haifa city centre via local bus lines or taxi. The journey typically takes 15 to 30 minutes depending on traffic and the specific starting point within the city.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 1.5 to 3 hours to walk through the gardens and visit the shrine. The time required depends on how much of the surrounding terrace system you intend to explore on foot.

When to Visit

Visiting during the early morning or late afternoon helps avoid the midday heat. The gardens are maintained year-round, but spring offers the most temperate weather. The site attracts many tourists and can become crowded, particularly during peak travel seasons.

Nearby Attractions

Because of its location, the shrine can be combined with several other sites in the immediate area:

  • Bahá'í Terraces (0km): Integrated with the shrine grounds.
  • Bahá'í World Centre buildings (0.1km): Located within walking distance.
  • Haifa Museum of Art (0.5km): A short walk from the gardens.
