Mitaki-dera Temple

Overview

Mitaki-dera is a Buddhist temple of the Koyasan Shingon sect located on the slopes of Mount Sokozan in Nishi-ku, Hiroshima. Travellers visit to walk along the forested mountain paths, view traditional wooden temple structures, and experience a quiet religious site outside the central city.

Getting There

From central Hiroshima, take the JR Kabe Line from Hiroshima Station to Mitaki Station. The train ride takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes. From the station, walk uphill for about 15 to 20 minutes to reach the temple entrance.

Time to Allow

Plan to spend 1 to 2 hours exploring the grounds, climbing the stone stairways, and viewing the halls.

When to Visit

Autumn brings increased crowds due to the changing foliage along the mountain trail. Weekday mornings are generally quieter and offer a calmer visit. The walking path includes stone steps that can be uneven or slippery in wet conditions, so wear comfortable walking shoes.
