Shukkei-en Garden
Shukkei-en is a traditional Japanese landscape garden located in downtown Hiroshima. It features a series of ponds, bridges, and manicured greenery designed to recreate famous landscapes in a condensed space. Visitors go here to walk through a quiet, managed natural environment within the urban center.
Getting There
The garden is situated in the city center. Depending on your starting point, it is accessible via the local streetcar (Hiroden) or a short taxi ride. From the central business district, it typically takes 10 to 15 minutes to reach.
Duration of Visit
Allow approximately 1 to 2 hours to walk the full circuit of the garden and observe the different viewpoints and water features.
When to Visit
The garden is popular during the spring cherry blossom season and autumn foliage period, which can lead to significant crowds. To avoid the largest groups, visit on weekday mornings. The atmosphere is generally quieter during the midday hours on weekdays.
