About the Site

Barbar Temple is an archaeological site in Bahrain's Barbar village featuring the remains of three superimposed temples from the Dilmun civilization. The oldest structure dates to approximately 3000 BC and was built with limestone quarried on Jidda Island. Visitors can observe stone foundations, ancient altars, and an underground natural spring chamber that served Dilmun religious rituals.

Getting There

Located in northwestern Bahrain, the ruins are reachable from central Isa Town or Manama in approximately 15 to 25 minutes by car or taxi.

Time to Allow

Plan for 45 minutes to 1 hour to walk through the excavated terraces and inspect the architectural layout.

When to Visit

The cooler winter months from November to March provide the most comfortable weather for exploring the outdoor site. During warmer periods, visit in the early morning or late afternoon to avoid direct heat. The area receives moderate visitor traffic and is rarely crowded.
