Basilica Cistern

Located in the old city of Istanbul, this is a subterranean water reservoir built during the Byzantine era. It is the largest remaining cistern in the city and is designated as a UNESCO World Heritage site. Visitors go here to walk through the underground space and view the rows of columns and the ancient masonry.

Getting There

The site is situated in the historic center of Istanbul. From the city center, it is accessible via the T1 tram line (Sultanahmet stop). Depending on your starting point within the central district, the journey typically takes 15 to 30 minutes.
