Overview

Bujagali Falls was historically a series of rapids on the Victoria Nile near Jinja, once considered among the river's sources. Following the construction of a hydroelectric dam in 2011, the original falls were submerged beneath a reservoir and are no longer visible. Travelers visit the location to see the transformed river landscape, observe the dam infrastructure, or use the waterfront for calm-water recreation and dining.

Getting There

The site lies north of Jinja city centre. Driving or taking local road transport takes roughly 20 to 30 minutes under normal traffic conditions.

Time to Spend

Plan to spend 1 to 2 hours for viewing the riverfront and dam area. Those participating in water activities or staying for a meal should allow half a day.

When to Visit

Daylight hours provide the clearest view of the reservoir. Drier months generally offer better driving conditions on approach roads. Weekends bring more local visitors, while weekdays are noticeably quieter and uncrowded.
