Overview

Owen Falls was historically a natural waterfall on the White Nile near Jinja. The falls were submerged in 1954 following the construction of the Nalubaale Hydroelectric Dam. Today, travellers visit this site to observe the historic dam infrastructure and the flow of the river.

Getting There

The site is situated close to central Jinja. Reaching the area by vehicle or taxi from the town centre takes roughly 5 to 10 minutes. International arrivals connect through Entebbe International Airport (EBB), located southwest of the capital, before driving to Jinja.

Time to Allow

Set aside roughly 30 to 45 minutes. This provides sufficient time to view the dam structure and look out over the river.

When to Go

Visit during clear daylight hours for the best visibility. The regional dry seasons provide optimal road travel conditions. The location rarely experiences tourist crowding, though nearby traffic increases during peak morning and evening travel times.

  • New Jinja Bridge (0.8km)
