The Source of the Nile

Located in Jinja, Uganda, this site marks the point where the Nile River exits Lake Victoria to begin its course northward. Travelers visit this location to see the geographical starting point where the world's longest river originates and to observe the river's flow as it leaves the lake.

Getting There

The site is located a short distance from Jinja city centre. Most visitors reach the area via taxi or boda-boda (motorcycle taxi). The trip typically takes about 10 to 20 minutes depending on local traffic conditions.

Duration of Visit

Allow approximately 2 to 3 hours to explore the immediate area, walk along the banks, and take in the surroundings. If you choose to include a short boat trip on the water, you should allocate more time.

When to Visit

Morning visits are recommended to avoid the midday heat. The site can become crowded during weekends and public holidays when domestic tourism increases. It is advisable to visit during the dry seasons to ensure easier access to the riverbanks.
