Overview

The Nevėžis is one of the longest rivers flowing entirely within Lithuania. Originating in the Anykščiai region and passing through Panevėžys and Kėdainiai, it joins the Nemunas River near Kaunas. Travellers visit to walk along the riverbanks, go canoeing or kayaking, and observe the confluence of the waterways.

Getting There

From central Kaunas, reaching the lower river area near Raudondvaris takes approximately 15 to 25 minutes by car heading northwest. Local public buses run regularly from the city towards Raudondvaris, taking roughly 30 to 40 minutes.

Recommended Time

Allow 1 to 2 hours for a casual walk along the riverbank. If you plan to kayak or hike a longer stretch of the valley, plan for a half-day outing of 3 to 4 hours.

When to Go

Late spring through early autumn offers the best conditions for walking and water activities. The riverbanks do not get heavily crowded, though local visitors are common on warm summer weekends. Early morning and late afternoon provide calm lighting and quieter paths.
