Kyrenia Castle

Located in Kyrenia, Northern Cyprus, this 16th-century Venetian fortification was constructed over an earlier Crusader-era fortress. Visitors go here to explore the military architecture, a 12th-century chapel, and a museum housing an ancient shipwreck.

Getting There

The castle is situated directly on the harbor front. From the Kyrenia city centre, it is accessible via a short walk of approximately 5 to 10 minutes.

Duration of Visit

Allow roughly 2 to 3 hours to walk the ramparts and visit both the chapel and the shipwreck museum.

When to Visit

The site is exposed to the sun, so visiting during the early morning or late afternoon is advisable to avoid midday heat. During peak summer months, the area can become crowded with tourists.

Combining with Other Attractions

Due to its central location, the castle can be paired with several nearby sites:

  • Kyrenia Lighthouse: 0.3km away, within easy walking distance.
  • Kyrenia Mountains: 4.7km away.
  • Bellapais Abbey: 4.8km away.
