Saint Hilarion Castle
Saint Hilarion Castle
Located in the Kyrenia Mountains of Northern Cyprus, this historic fortress once served as a defensive guard for the mountain pass between Kyrenia and Nicosia. It is the best preserved of the three fortresses in the range, offering visitors a look at medieval military architecture and panoramic views of the coastline and mountains.
Getting There
The castle is situated approximately 5km from the center of Kyrenia. Most visitors reach the site by car or taxi. The drive from the city center takes roughly 10 to 15 minutes, followed by a walk up the mountain path to reach the castle structures.
Visit Duration
Allow approximately 2 to 4 hours for a visit. This accounts for the steep climb from the parking area to the upper fortifications and the time needed to explore the various levels of the castle.
When to Visit
Early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid the midday heat, as the ascent is exposed to the sun. Spring and autumn are the most temperate seasons for hiking the site. The location can get crowded during peak tourist seasons.
