What It Is

Acheiropoietos Monastery consists of the ruins of a medieval Byzantine Orthodox monastery in Lambousa, situated near the village of Lapithos. Travellers visit to examine surviving Byzantine masonry and explore the archaeological remnants positioned along a quiet coastal stretch west of Kyrenia.

Getting There

The site is located to the west of central Kyrenia. Travelling by car or taxi along the main coastal road takes approximately 15 to 20 minutes from the city centre.

A typical visit takes roughly 30 to 45 minutes to walk around the exterior walls, inspect the remaining structures, and view the adjacent shoreline.

When to Visit

Morning and late afternoon offer the most comfortable temperatures, especially during the hot summer months. The grounds are generally quiet and do not draw large crowds, making it easy to visit at any time of year.
