Karnak Temple Complex

Located in Luxor, this site is a large collection of sanctuaries, pylons, and chapels constructed over several eras of ancient Egyptian history. It served as the primary center of worship for the sun god Amun. Visitors go here to study the architectural evolution of the site and walk through the Great Hypostyle Hall, known for its dense forest of towering stone columns.

Getting There

The complex is located on the east bank of the Nile. From Luxor city centre, it is accessible via taxi or horse-drawn carriage. The trip typically takes 10 to 15 minutes depending on traffic.

Time Requirement

Due to the vast size of the grounds and the number of separate structures, allow at least 3 to 4 hours to explore the main areas of the complex.

Planning Your Visit

The site is open to the elements with little shade, so early morning or late afternoon is recommended to avoid peak heat. It gets crowded, particularly during the winter peak season when tour groups arrive in large numbers.
