About the Tomb

KV1 is the ancient burial place of Ramesses VII, located in the Valley of the Kings on the West Bank of Luxor. Unlike the sprawling complexes of earlier pharaohs, it features a modest layout consisting of a single corridor leading directly into the burial chamber. Visitors come to study its preserved wall reliefs and to observe how royal tomb architecture shifted to a smaller scale during this period.

Getting There

From central Luxor on the East Bank, reach the site by crossing the Nile River via bridge or public ferry, then driving west into the hills. The total trip by car or taxi typically takes 30 to 45 minutes.

Time to Spend

Due to the compact single-corridor design, an interior visit takes roughly 15 to 30 minutes.

When to Visit

Early morning is the best time to arrive to avoid peak heat and large tour groups. Summer temperatures in the valley can be intense, making the cooler months between autumn and spring more practical for outdoor exploration.
