Valley of the Kings

Located near Luxor, this site served as the primary burial ground for the pharaohs and high-ranking nobles of the New Kingdom. Visitors go here to enter the rock-cut tombs and view the ancient wall paintings and inscriptions that remain from thousands of years ago.

Getting There

The site is located on the West Bank of the Nile. From Luxor city centre, travellers typically cross the river via ferry or bridge and take a taxi or shuttle. The journey generally takes 20 to 30 minutes depending on traffic and the crossing method.

Time Allocation

Allow at least 3 to 4 hours to explore the site. This provides enough time to walk between the various tomb entrances and spend time inside the selected chambers.

When to Visit

Early morning is recommended to avoid the midday heat, as the site is an open desert environment with limited shade. The cooler winter months are the most suitable season for visiting. This location gets crowded, particularly during peak tourist seasons and when cruise ship groups arrive.
